Dive Week 2014 wrapped up strong with divers from Sea Sports of Houston, and others from all over Texas and as far away as London.  The water temperature at depth remained at 84 degrees but due to the recent storms and a flotilla of shrimp boats dragging the gulf in and around the area the visibility hovered in the 20 – 30 foot range.  The divers spent time hunting Lion Fish on the Clipper and during the last 3 days of Dive Week were able to dispatch about a dozen, unfortunately there are still plenty down there.  We would like to thank everybody who participated in this important event and a special thanks to those of you who donated so generously to the cause.  Thanks to Stephen Whitley and Paul Schmieder for the photos below.

Dive Week has gotten of to a late start due to weather and off shore conditions but we made it out to the Clipper today with several divers that have been here all week to participate in Dive Week; the seas were a bit rough and visibility was diminished due to the recent weather but this group was not to be denied.  Water temperature was 83 degrees at 110 feet, and a few Lion Fish were sighted in and around the 100 foot range, we will have to go back tomorrow and relieve the Clipper of a few more.

Today was the beginning of SPI DIVE WEEK. Seas were sloppy and the current was running out of the north on the Texas Clipper, however the divers and Sgt. Stephen Jackal had a great time on one of our other wrecks.

And SPI Dive Week keeps rolling on with calm seas and warm blue water. It turned out to be a smashing success for the fund raiser. As an aside, divers reported a whale shark in Little Sara on Saturday. The pictures tell a thousand words.

Diving with the Wounded Warriors has been a privilege. Calm Seas , blue warm water. The warriors were given an escort back to SPI by Homeland Security, USCG, and the Border Patrol. They had a cocktail party with the mayor. I’ll let the photos tell the rest of the story.

Sea Sports of Houston came back out to the Clipper for Day 3 of Dive Week.  They enjoyed diving from the Double Sunshine so much yesterday, the requested it again for today’s dive.  Since seas cooperated by laying nearly flat, we were happy to oblige.  Water again was very clear, 80 to 100 ft and divers have enjoyed getting to spend ample time exploring all that the Clipper has to offer.

We saw record numbers of divers today on the Texas Clipper as groups from Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Oklahoma joined us for what were near perfect conditions.  Seas were so flat, divers could have skipped stones across the surface during their intervals.  Water was BLUE and viz was 100 ft down to about 110 ft.  Conditions were ideal for photo taking!! To accommodate all of the divers we even had to take out two boats.

SPI Dive Week kicked off a day early with divers from Sea Sports of Houston getting an early jump on the festivities.  They were treated to calm seas and excellent visibility up to 80 ft.  Water temps were in the 80s.

A dive out to Little Sara with divers, snorkelers and spear-fishers.  Currents were a little strong and the top layer of the water was green from recent rain runoff.  On the rig divers reported visibility around 70 ft and also stated that the water blued up below the 20 ft level.  Lots of big barracuda on the rig.
