We wanted to thank all the divers who made the effort to come dive the Texas Clipper this weekend! Seas may have picked up to 3ft by the end of Sunday but diving conditions were still wonderful. Mild current and 60ft vis with a bottom temperature of 76 degrees. Thanks to Sea Sports and their divers for making the trip down and spending back to back days with us!
What a beautiful weekend to dive. The sea prediction was 2 feet or less and they did not disappoint. Visibility was great 50’ to 60’ with the blue water line close to the Jetties. We had a great group of divers on Saturday and Sunday. Thank you to all of those who dove with us.
Second trip of the 2018 season and couldn’t be happier. Dove with Duggan Diving and a few other guest and some of our local divers. The visibility was 40′ – 60′ with seas of 2′ – 3′. Water temp was in the 80’s at the surface with a temperature to the mid 70’s below 40′.

This winter we have redone the Diver I. We replaced the old flooring and added new flooring with a great new look and feel. We are gearing up for a great dive season and hope to see a lot of people taking part in the Texas Clipper Coin Challenge. Here are some pictures of the work that was done this winter in preparation for the dive season.

We had another great dive on the Clipper. A big thanks to Duggan diving and for coming out. Our visibility was between 50 and 60 feet again. The conditions couldn’t have been better. These great photos came from our good friend Mark Haynes.
First dive of the season!!! We started the day out with 60′ of visibility and seas of 2′ to 3′. We ended the dive with 40′ to 50′ visibility and 3′ seas. It was a great way to start the season. Thank you to all the divers that came out to kick off the season with us.
We finally made it off shore! The seas over the last several weekends have prevented us from getting out. The forecast of 1 to 2 feet was not quite correct, but we will take 2 to 3 all day. We spent the day setting mooring lines and preparing for the start of the dive season. The visibility was 60′ and the temperature at depth remained at 74 degrees. The resident Sting Rays were sighted along with large schools of Spade Fish.
Much better conditions than what we expected; A week prior we were out doing some work and the conditions were much more challenging. Today the seas were 2′ – 3′ and the temperature at depth a cool 72 degrees with very little current and 50′ visibility great early season conditions. Can’t wait to get some divers in the water, call and book your trip today.

Divers from Texas and Oklahoma made 2 dives on the Clipper today, seas were calm and the weather couldn’t have been better. Visibility was 40′ and the thermocline we have had all summer seems to be letting up a bit as the temperature at depth has increased to 75 degrees.
Duggan Diving headed to the Clipper today with a mixed group of recreational and Technical divers. We enjoyed calm seas and the thermocline that seems to stay with with us until late summer didn’t disappoint – at depth it was 72 degrees. Don’t forget to pack your full wet-suit!
Dive season finally started – the off season seems so long. Duggan Diving out of San Antonio and other divers from around Texas enjoyed two dives on the Clipper today. Much better conditions than what we expected; two days prior we were out doing some work and the conditions were much more challenging. On day two of the Sea Sports Scuba trip conditions improved drastically, with visibility at 60+ feet the divers were able to really see how impressive the Clipper is. It was a very pleasant day off shore with calm seas and temperature at depth remains at 76 degrees. Over the weekend we were able to remove two more lion fish, and no additional reported sightings but as we all know they are still down there.
Sea Sports Scuba from Houston and others from around Texas made the trip out to the Clipper today. Seas were calm and the weather was great. Thanks to a bit of current out of the north and shrimp boats dragging the bottom up current the visibility on the Clipper was only about 20 feet but the divers had a wonderful time; the temperature at depth was 76 degrees. On dive 2 Greg proposed to his Girlfriend Barbara – Congratulations guys we wish you much happiness!
Duggan Diving out of San Antonio had another group on the Clipper today, several of their people had been on the July 25th trip and enjoyed it so much they had to come back. They were joined by Scubatactics a group out of Laredo. The seas were a bit rough with some surface current which made it a bit more challenging but once below the surface we had 60 foot visibility and a nice 76 degrees at depth.
Divers from SA Scuba Shack enjoyed a calm day on the Clipper, there was still a slight surface current but much less than yesterday. Below the surface divers were treated to excellent late summer conditions – 70+ foot visibility and 76 degrees at depth. Another Lion fish was sent to its watery grave.
Divers from the Dallas area made the trip to dive the Clipper today, the seas were calm but we had a very strong current from the surface to 50 feet but all the divers handled it well. Once on the Clipper the conditions were excellent, very little current with visibility at least 70 feet and the temperature at depth a comfortable 76 degrees. A group of Technical divers from the Dallas area made a training dive on the Clipper today.
To the delight of all the divers from Sugar Land Dive Center; the seas improved today making for a smoother ride out to the Clipper for their second day of diving. Visibility was a bit better all the way down to 95′ where it was still a bit thick but it sure looks like it is headed in the right direction.
Sugar Land Dive Center made 2 dives on The Texas Clipper today, the seas were a little rough but conditions below the surface continue to improve. Visibility today was 50′ above the 85′ mark and the temperature is inching its way above the low 70’s we have been experiencing to 74 degrees.
The seas don’t get much calmer than today, the divers enjoyed swimming pool like conditions during our trip to the Texas Clipper. The temperature at depth was 72 degrees and the visibility above 85 feet was 40+ feet and a nice blue; the shrimp boats are continuing to stir up the bottom in the area making things below 90 feet a bit thick. Arnold scored his first Lion Fish kill today and Ryan shot this large African Pompano – and it sure was tasty – Thanks Ryan
What a Great Day – Divers from Duggan Diving and others form across Texas made 2 dives on The Texas Cilpper today, the seas were calm and Visibility was 80+ feet. The temperature at depth has increased to a comfortable 75 degrees. The resident family of Sting Rays sailed around the divers as if they were posing for photos but the Lion Fish must be figuring out they need to hide when the divers arrive as they were difficult to spot and would squeeze into spaces that made them difficult to Kill but I was able to dispatch another one – only too many to count left, I am sure.
The divers from Aggieland and Sea Sports hit the Clipper again today with much calmer seas and increased visibility to everyone’s delight. The visibility was 40′ and the temperature at depth remained at 74 degrees, the resident Sting Rays were sighted along with large schools of Spade Fish. Divers from Sea Sports Scuba and Aggieland Scuba spent the weekend exploring The Texas Clipper, the seas were rough today making it a bit more challenging on the surface; but once underwater there was only a slight current and the temperature at depth was 74 degrees. Due to the start of the shrimp season visibility was reduced to about 20′ but everyone enjoyed the dive. The Lion Fish are getting larger but seem to be hiding themselves better, the latest victim was found towards the stern at about 100′. We had Dr. Mary Wicksten, a Professor from the Texas A&M Biology Department on board this weekend and we are happy to report that after further inspection of our Lion Fish his donor card indicated his remains be donated to science. He was frozen and packaged for transport and Mary has delivered him to the TAMU Biodiversity Research and Teaching Collections Center.
Divers from Sugar Land Dive Center and others from around Texas made 2 dives on The Clipper today, what a beautiful day off shore. The seas were calm and the weather was great; below the surface conditions were very good visibility was 50 feet and the water at depth was 76 degrees. Divers reported a few Lion Fish sightings but unfortunately no kills today.
